Surrounding area


Baños de Montemayor offers its visitors many possibilities, where they can get its particular traditional handicrafts, which has a big name in the region, and a delicious gastronomy known in all this zone. If you wish to see an original Ambroz Valley landscape, you will be possible to do it from a few kilometres northwards, going towards Béjar mountain pass.

La Garganta, situated at an altitude of more than 1000 metres in the southern slope of Candelario mountains, has got attractive landscapes and we may visit the Asuncion Church, from the XVII and XVIII centuries.

In Hervás, that belonged to Béjar Manor and the Order of the Temple long time ago, the most remarkable place is its amazing and well careful Jewish Quarter, declared Historical-Artistic Monument, apart from Santa Maria Church, Renaissance style from the XVII century, San Juan Church, in Baroque style from the XVII century and the former Padres Trinitarios’ Convent, today a magnificent guesthouse.

Its Pérez Comendador-Leroux Museum is excellent and its Motorbikes Museum is very original.

Béjar, town of Salamanca province, is also very close, and we can see a magnificent ski installations there, and besides a beautiful Botanical Garden.

Aldeanueva del Camino has got an interesting Roman Bridge and two churches from the XVI century, Santa María del Olmo and San Servando.

From Baños de Montemayor you can also go to the famous Cáparra Arch and the beautiful village of Granadilla, next to the Gabriel y Galán reservoir.

Plasencia houses inside its walls real historical-artistic treasures, and the Cathedral and the San Vicente Ferrer Convent (nowadays a state-owned hotel) are notable for their beauty. The Ethnographic and Textile Museum Pérez Enciso is one of the bests in Extremadura. Other places to visit are the Episcopal Palace, in Mirabel, Almaraz, Monroy, the House of the Dean, the House of Carvajales Girón and the Main Square.

From Baños de Montemayor we can visit the Jerte Valley, where we will arrive accessing by the Honduras Pass, crossing Hervás and, from there, taking the way to Piornal, we may visit the Vera region.

Cáceres

Cáceres, in the same way as the rest of the Extremaduran region, has been a historical zone for centuries where many cultures have arrived and left their mark from the prehistory until nowadays, and thus the possibility to know many works of art shown in its museums, the ecclesiastical buildings, exhibition halls, archaeological sites, etc.
