The way to work the chestnut tree wood comes from immemorial time ago and it’s characteristic from the Ambroz Valley villages.

Although every craftsman in the valley has got differences with the others, in Baños de Montemayor, the wood is worked acutely, baskets that are mainly used in the housework: sewing baskets, laundry baskets, bread baskets, baskets for the olives or grapes harvest in the country, etc.

The preparation of the wood is made acutely, getting this way a quality product. Finally part of these products are decorated by poker-working, using to this the furnace in the past and more modern mechanisms nowadays.

The number of basketmakers in Baños de Montemayor has decreased, because this job is very laborious.

Currently there are six basketwork shops open.

The ceramics craftsmanship is also important.
